Frequently Asked Questions
Who may attend Hoop Mountain Georgia Basketball Camps and events?
We welcome boys ages 12-18, and our programs are specific to certain age categories to allow for skill-level based learning. Please refer to each specific program, event or camp for age requirements. Currently, we have boys registered for the 2008 camps from many areas in the United States. Our staff members can assist you in answering all of your specific questions and in arranging transportation details and arrangements for camp.
How many kids attend camp?
We limit the number of participants to allow for more specialized, individualized and small group instruction. Each session varies on the number allowed, but we adhere to strict camper-to-coach ratios to maintain an effective learning experience
What is included in the camp tuition?
Lodging if needed, (air-conditioned facilities), 3 buffet-style meals daily, 1 camp jersey for each camp session, accident and injury insurance, all camp activities and transportation to and from the local airport or bus station, if needed. Additionally, individual and team awards will be given.
What is the ratio of participants to coach?
Approximately 8 to 1, with a maximum of 10 to 1.
When is my deposit due and how early should I register?
It is strongly encouraged to register early as all camp sessions will sell out, since space is limited to a certain number of participants for each camp. A deposit is due at the time an application is done online or mailed and will secure a spot for camp. Camp balance is due 14 days before camp begins. A parent may pay by check, money order or credit card.
Are roommate requests allowed?
Yes, we will honor all roommate requests, if indicated on the camp application.
Do any of your camp sessions overlap?
No. This allows for student-athletes to attend all camp sessions.
Is the camp safe?
Absolutely. Our staff makes a diligent effort to provide a safe, secure environment for our campers. Counselors and coaches stay in the same dorm with the campers. Oglethorpe University has security posted at the entrance of campus 24 hours.
What should I bring to summer camp sessions?
For Development Camp I: Five T-shirts, three pairs of shorts, five pairs of socks, five sets of underwear, pillow, pillowcase, bed sheet and a blanket, washcloths and towels, soap and toiletries, money for snacks, phone card and an alarm clock. For any of the other sessions: Bring three pairs of the clothing items listed above instead of five pairs. If you attend multiple camp sessions, please remember to pack one set of all clothing items for each day of camp. There are coin operated washers and dryers in the dormitory for campers use.
How much spending money will I need?
Use your own judgement. Most campers deposit $20-$50. There will be a snack bar and Tee shirts for sale. Also, many campers like to order Pizza at night. For the campers protection, campers must leave all cash secured with the office and arrange a " charge account" for all items purchased.
When is the trainer on duty?
A certified athletic trainer is on duty during the entire time campers are in the gyms.
Is there a team camp available?
We offer discounts to players from the same school team.
Does the camp have guest speakers?
Hoop Mountain Georgia is committed to providing top-notch speakers and guests at our camps and events. As a rule, we don't publicize their names as scheduling conflicts may prevent their attendance. We include speakers who are well-respected in the basketball industry, such as college coaches, athletic recruiters or sports personalities.
What airport and bus stations should I utlize?
Atlanta Hartsfield International Airport. Atlanta Greyhound Bus Station.
